Metric Studies o the Long Bones of Korean Infants

Abstract
The author measured the length and the circumference of the long bones, i. e. , the humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia and fibula in 123 cases of the Korean infants (43 males, 80 females), and obtained the following results.
1. The growth rate of each long bone of the male was larger than that of the female.
2. in both the male and the female, the growth rate of each long bone of the lower extremities was
larger than that of the corresponding long bone of the upper extremities.
3. The growth rate of the long bone in the first year after birth was significantly larger than that in he second year.
4. The length of each long bone at the 12 months old infant was about one third of length of the corresponding adult bone.
5. The growth rate of the circumference of each long bone was larger in the male than that in the female.
6. There was no significant difference in the growth rate of the circumference of the long bone between the upper extremities and the lower extremities.
7. The circumference of each long bone at the 12 months old infant was about one fourth to one third of the circumference of the corresponding adult bone.
